What will you do if Food supply to you is cut off totally? Surely you'll start consuming the food which
is stored, and when the main store is consumed you will start utilizing the items which were discarded from
use, as a measure of survival in emergency conditions. In the same way, the body starts eating itself when
the stored energy is consumed or to say starvation the mode is activated for any reason.
Dr Yoshinori Ohsumi won the Nobel prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2016, for proving the theory of Autophagy, the self-eating of the body in starvation mode activated by any means. Out of these methods, intermittent fasting is considered most effective, which helps in controlling obesity also. You will be benefited by fasting in many ways. It is useful in curing type 2 diabetes, Parkinson, cancer and age-related diseases.
Fasting also increases the level of nitric oxide, which in turn detoxifies the body to rejuvenate. In many research, it is found that all ailments of the body disappeared by long fasting, immune system became strong renewed. Happened due to flushing and consumption of cell garbage.
There are many ways of fasting, but you must remember that you are not providing calories during the fasting period. Intermittent fasting is considered better, whereby you can fast once or twice in a week by taking only water in 24 Hrs. You can take fruit juices without adding sugar to it. You may practice the daily window fasting, eating in the window of 8 hours and fasting for 16 hours. You should choose the fasting the style which suits you best, by taking some factors into consideration, e.g age, body weight and medical conditions.
In Yoga, different types of fasting methods are used for detoxification of the body and mind as well. The main purpose is to cleanse the body and gain control over the wandering thoughts. Researchers have also proven that less you eat more you live with sound health. You should always prefer nutrients over calories (Carb).
