Science of YOGA breathing
Breath is the most essential component of life. Life always flows with the breath in every cell of our body. Apart from providing continuous detoxification, it also regulates the temperature of the body by automatically controlling the ratio of outflow and inflow of breath.
By practising breathing exercises or PRANAYAMA you can bring the changes in your body and in your mind as well. There are various types of breathing exercises to gain physical and mental balance.
Term pranayama in the Sanskrit language in means regulation of life force, i.e., breath. In Pranayama we control inflow and outflow speed, the intensity of flow, period of holding the breath inside and outside the body. There are numerous types of Pranayama for gaining different desired results.
Simple and best breathing exercise for a layman is deep belly breathing. It benefits all the organs of the body contained inside the belly. So it is rejuvenating the system responsible for physical health. It is shutting down fight and flight response of the body whereby stopping the flow of negative hormones affecting the emotional health. Emotional and physical health must be considered two sides of the same coin, physical health is always proportional to mental health.
So whenever you feel stressed, depressed, drained out, just sit down keeping your spine erect gently, close your eyes, scan your body from head to tow for any stiffness, loosen the part of body feeling stiffness or in tension. Now slowly inhale through the nostril very slowly by keeping the mouth closed. Inhale till the belly is full with the breath comfortable, then hold the breath as per for capacity, then release slowly through the nostril in a controlled way. You may repeat this many times. Please remember while doing this exercise your belly should be either empty of very light. This is the simplest but greatest of all exercise can be done by anybody for physical, mental and spiritual gains.
